A Day in the Life of Operational Excellence

As a Fractional COO, my day starts with a sense of anticipation, knowing that I’ll be working on a mix of high-level strategy, operational problem-solving, and leadership coaching. It all begins when I sit down at my desk around 10 am. I take a moment to review my calendar for the day, checking what meetings I have, what my top priorities are, and where I can be most impactful. This sets the tone for everything that follows.
One of the first things I look forward to is the coaching session with a CEO client. These calls are always dynamic, full of insights and breakthroughs. I guide my clients through tough decisions, showing them how small tweaks in their operations can lead to significant growth. It’s not just about the business strategy—it’s about empowering these leaders to step into their full potential as decision-makers and visionaries. Through these sessions, my CEO clients gain clarity on how to prioritize their efforts and make the strategic shifts needed to drive their business forward.
After that, I dive into a couple of hours of focused work. This might involve reviewing operational systems for a client, refining workflows, or troubleshooting any bottlenecks that are slowing down their team. During this time, I’m able to design streamlined systems that improve business efficiency and enable scalability. There’s something satisfying about taking complex problems and creating clear solutions that make a real difference in the way the business runs. My CEO clients benefit from this because they see how their operations can run more smoothly, allowing them to focus on scaling without getting bogged down by day-to-day challenges.
In the afternoon, I focus on working closely with the operations team to smooth out any issues with execution and implementation. These team members are critical in ensuring that the strategies we’ve developed get carried out effectively. I spend time guiding them through any challenges they might be facing, whether it’s clarifying workflows or making sure there’s alignment between various departments. This collaboration ensures that everyone is on the same page, and the business can maintain momentum as it grows. My CEO clients benefit from this because they know their operations are in capable hands, and they can trust that their teams are executing with precision.
Next, I shift gears with another coaching session, this time focusing more on leadership. I work with my CEO clients on their mindset, team dynamics, and their ability to delegate effectively. These are the moments where I guide them in developing their leadership skills, enabling them to lead with vision and confidence. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness their growth, not only in terms of business acumen but in their ability to lead their teams with greater clarity and purpose.
Throughout the day, I make sure to take brief moments to renew and refresh. Whether it’s a walk outside, some deep breathing, or simply stepping away from the desk for a few minutes, these short breaks are crucial. They help me clear my mind, recharge my energy, and come back to my work with a renewed perspective. As a Fractional COO, I know that staying sharp and focused is essential for providing the best guidance and support to my clients. Taking time for self-care throughout the day ensures I’m operating at my best and can serve my clients at the highest level.
I always look forward to my networking and collaboration time as well. Whether I’m connecting with fellow professionals, discussing partnership opportunities, or creating content for upcoming programs, this part of the day keeps me connected to the broader business ecosystem. It ensures I’m always learning, sharing ideas, and finding ways to offer even more value to my clients.
As the day winds down, I finish with a quick review of what I’ve accomplished and what’s on tap for the next day. This helps me reflect on the progress made and stay organized for what lies ahead. It’s a satisfying way to end the day, knowing that I’ve made an impact on my clients’ growth journeys and have a clear plan to continue that momentum tomorrow.
In addition to my work as a Fractional COO, I also serve and support clients in the More Coaching Clients Sales and Marketing Academy. I absolutely love serving coaches and helping them scale their businesses. Whether they’re looking to refine their marketing strategies, improve their sales funnels, or optimize their operations, I’m passionate about empowering coaches to grow and thrive in their business. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing my clients succeed in building profitable, sustainable coaching businesses.
This mix of coaching, problem-solving, and system optimization is what I love most about being a Fractional COO. Each day is different, but it’s always fulfilling because it’s rooted in making real, lasting change for the businesses I support. Through my work with both the leadership and operations teams, my CEO clients gain not just strategic advice, but also a clear path to smoother execution and a more scalable business.
